Maranta is a compact foliage plant native to South America, prized for its beautifully patterned leaf veins. It's sometimes called the "prayer plant" because of its unique habit of folding its leaves closed at night. It thrives in environments with a temperature difference between day and night, and it's one of the easiest houseplants for beginners.
Maranta prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun and keep it near a window filtered through sheer curtains for best results. Maintain temperatures between 18–25°C and humidity above 60%. In winter, be sure to keep it in an environment no colder than 10°C.

Water when the soil surface feels dry to the touch. If the soil still feels moist when you check it, hold off watering. Since Maranta dislikes dryness, the key is keeping the soil slightly moist at all times. To prevent root rot, use well-draining soil and water until it flows from the drainage holes. Regular misting of the leaves is also very helpful.
