It might feel like you need separate strategies for each season, but there's really just one rule to remember: don't place plants where the air blows directly on them. That alone prevents most of the damage.
The only seasonal difference is the character of the air.
- Summer cooling: cold air sinks, so it falls onto whatever sits below. The spot in the airflow also gets colder — a double burden for plants of tropical origin

- Avoid the space directly under or in front of the vent: within about 2 m (6 feet) in a straight line, especially anywhere in the air path, is a no-go
- Adjust the airflow direction: if you can't move the plant, angle the louvers upward or side to side so the air doesn't hit it directly

Four ways to keep humidity up
Once you've dealt with the draft, the next step is the room's overall dryness. Put a hygrometer near your plants and aim for 40–60% — it makes the situation much easier to read.
1. Make misting a habit

2. Pair the AC with a humidifier
In a room where the AC runs for long stretches, a humidifier is the most reliable option.
- Placing it near your plants (within 1–2 m) makes the effect easiest to notice
- That said, don't let the mist blow directly onto the leaves — constantly wet foliage invites mold and disease
- In winter, a heater plus humidifier is a win-win: gentler on your throat and on your plants
3. Group your plants together
Plants slightly raise the humidity around themselves through transpiration. Cluster a few pots together and their combined transpiration keeps that corner noticeably more humid. It looks good too, which is why it's a classic dry-season technique.
4. A pebble tray for simple humidity
You can also fill a saucer with pebbles and water and set the pot on top. The key is making sure the bottom of the pot doesn't sit in the water (if it does, you're inviting root rot). As the water evaporates, it gently raises the humidity around the plant.
